President Yoon Suk-yeol will make a state visit to the United States from the 24th to the 29th for 5 nights and 7 days at the invitation of U.S. President Joe Biden. This is the first state visit to the U.S. by a Korean head of state in 12 years since President Lee Myung-bak in 2011, and it is the second such visit under the Biden administration following French President Emmanuel Macron's visit last December.
Kim Tae-hyo, First Deputy Director of the National Security Office, held a briefing at the Yongsan Presidential Office building on the morning of the 20th to officially announce President Yoon's state visit schedule to the U.S.
On the evening of the second day of the visit, the 25th, President Yoon will join President Biden and the First Lady for a joint schedule. This will be a social event with both the Korean and U.S. leaders and their spouses. On the 26th, a summit meeting with President Biden is scheduled at the White House, followed by a state dinner attended by both leaders and their spouses.
Deputy Director Kim stated, "President Yoon and President Biden will participate together in several events on the 26th, including the official welcoming ceremony at the White House, the summit meeting, and the state dinner," adding, "They plan to celebrate the achievements of the Korea-U.S. alliance accumulated over the past 70 years and exchange in-depth views on the future development direction of the alliance."
The Korea-U.S. summit is expected to cover agendas aimed at strengthening cooperation in areas such as ▲concretizing extended deterrence ▲enhancing cyber intelligence alliance ▲collaboration in the space sector ▲strengthening strategic partnerships for stable supply chain construction ▲supporting talent development in advanced technology fields.
On the 27th, President Yoon will deliver a speech at a joint session of the U.S. Congress. In this speech, he is expected to reflect on the 70-year history of the alliance based on shared values of liberal democracy, rule of law, and human rights, diagnose the challenges facing both countries, and present a future alliance blueprint that both nations will pursue together. After the speech, he will attend a luncheon hosted by U.S. Vice President Harrison and his spouse, as well as Secretary of State Blinken. He is also scheduled to receive a briefing on the current situation from the top U.S. military leadership.

Late on the 27th, President Yoon will travel to Boston. On the 28th, he will hold a dialogue with scholars in the digital bio field at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), followed by participation in the Korea-U.S. cluster roundtable. A visit to Harvard University is also planned. He is scheduled to deliver his first policy speech at the Kennedy School. Deputy Director Kim explained, "President Yoon will reflect on the expansion of economic and political freedom led by the U.S. over the past 200 years and include thoughts on the dual nature of freedom in the digital age we live in within his speech."
