Jeju Air Celebrates 6th Anniversary of Disabled Standard Workplace 'Modurak'
Jeju Air announced on the 20th that 'Modurak,' the first standard workplace for people with disabilities in the aviation industry, celebrated its 6th anniversary this year since its establishment on April 18, 2017.
Modurak was established to promote employment for people with disabilities and provide stable jobs. It operates a cafe, nail art, and healthcare services at Jeju Air's Seoul branch. It offers quality jobs to people with disabilities, allows companies to fulfill their employment obligations for people with disabilities, and provides employees with high-level welfare services.
The Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled mandates that private companies hire people with disabilities for 3.1% of their total workforce. According to the 2022 Corporate Disability Employment Status Survey released by the Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled, among approximately 1.8 million companies in South Korea, only 1.49% employ people with disabilities, and companies with a disability employment rate of '3% or higher' number 48,600, accounting for 2.7% of the total. Jeju Air’s Modurak maintained an average disability employment rate of 3.1% last year.
The number of employees with disabilities at Modurak started at 19 at its founding and currently stands at 44. Regular employees include ▲office workers (7), ▲baristas (21), ▲nail artists (9), and ▲healthkeepers (4). Among them, 33 are people with severe disabilities, accounting for 75% of the total employees with disabilities.
The name ‘Modurak’ is derived from the Jeju dialect word ‘Modeurak,’ which means people gathering warmly together. In fact, an average of about 1,000 executives and employees use the services provided by Modurak daily.
Marking its 6th anniversary this year, Modurak held a spring outing on the 19th at the Korean Folk Village in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, celebrating the upcoming Disability Day with Jeju Air employees, enjoying a joyful time together.
