Jeju Samdasoo Reduces Plastic Usage by 2,570 Tons Over 3 Years
Efforts for Resource Circulation Including Expansion of Label-Free Products and Lightweighting
Goal to Increase Label-Free Production Share to 50% by 2025
Jeju Samdasoo announced its eco-friendly management achievements on the 20th in celebration of ‘Earth Day’ on the 22nd.
Jeju Samdasoo has worked to reduce plastic use during the production stage by increasing the production volume of label-free products and promoting product lightweighting. Over the past three years, it has reduced plastic usage by approximately 2,570 tons, achieving about a 9% reduction in plastic use compared to 2020.
Jeju Development Corporation announced its eco-friendly management vision, ‘Green Whole Process,’ in 2021 and has been leading eco-friendly management by establishing a business model that carries out the entire product process?from production to collection and upcycling?in an environmentally friendly manner. As the first step of the Green Whole Process, it launched the label-free product ‘Jeju Samdasoo Green,’ completing a 3-no (無) system of no label, no color cap, and no color bottle, which can be circulated as is after drinking, earning the highest recycling grade from the Korea Environment Corporation.
It is also expanding its eco-friendly lineup through material innovation, such as developing ‘Jeju Samdasoo RE:Born,’ a chemically recycled PET using recycled PET (CR-PET) applied for the first time in the domestic bottled water industry. In addition to expanding eco-friendly products, it has continuously pursued container lightweighting since 2003. Last year, it further lightened the containers of 330mL and 500mL products and obtained low-carbon product certification from the Ministry of Environment.
Jeju Development Corporation plans to increase the production volume of label-free products to 50% by 2025 and continue research and development (R&D) innovation for lightweighting. Along with this, it will complete the new eco-friendly production line, Eco-friendly Factory (L6), in 2025 to begin full-scale production of eco-friendly products.
