"Order Food in Reusable Containers Now Available in Gyeonggi Province"
To Be Introduced in Gimpo, Hwaseong, Ansan, and Yongin on April 27
Budget Support Provided by Gyeonggi Province Local Governments
No Additional Costs for Restaurant Owners or Customers
Customers in Gyeonggi Province can now order food in reusable containers through the Baemin (Baedal Minjok) application (app). Woowa Brothers, the operator of Baemin (CEO Lee Gukhwan), announced on April 20 that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote the activation of the "Reusable Container Reuse Promotion Support Project" with six local governments in Gyeonggi Province, domestic delivery app operators, and reusable container service providers.
The agreement includes the participation of local governments in Gyeonggi Province-Gimpo, Siheung, Ansan, Anseong, Yongin, and Hwaseong-as well as Gyeonggido Company (Baedal Teukgeup), Great Imagination (Yogiyo), Shinhan Bank (Ttaenggyeoyo), and Itgreen, which operates the reusable container delivery service "Returnit."
This agreement is part of a public-private partnership to spread eco-friendly delivery practices. The participating local governments and companies have agreed to actively cooperate to promote reusable container delivery by supporting policies and service development for expanding reusable container services and conducting promotional campaigns to improve consumer awareness of eco-friendly reusable containers.
Starting April 27, Baemin will sequentially introduce the reusable container ordering feature in Gyeonggi Province, beginning with Gimpo, Hwaseong, Ansan, and Yongin. The service will be expanded to Anseong on May 11 and to Siheung on May 25.
Customers in Gyeonggi Province areas where reusable container delivery is available can view a list of restaurants offering this service by clicking the reusable container order banner on the Baemin app's main home screen or by searching for the keyword "reusable container" in the app's search bar. After selecting a restaurant and menu, customers can choose the option "Please serve the food in a reusable container" at the order stage. Thanks to budget support from Gyeonggi Province local governments, there are no additional costs for restaurant owners or customers when ordering with reusable containers.
Previously, Baemin began a pilot operation of the reusable container delivery service in Seoul's Gangnam and Seocho districts in August last year. Currently, the Baemin reusable container delivery service is available at restaurants in five districts in Seoul: Gangnam, Seocho, Gwanak, Gwangjin, and Seodaemun.
