Restaurant suspected of being a Chinese secret police station sent for prosecution on unreported business operation charges
Officials of the Chinese restaurant 'Dongbangmyeongju' in Songpa-gu, Seoul, suspected of being a domestic base for the Chinese secret police, have been handed over to the prosecution on charges including unregistered business operations.
On the 20th, the Songpa Police Station in Seoul announced that at the end of last month, they had sent Wang Haijun (王海軍, 45), the actual owner of Dongbangmyeongju, and representative A to the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office on charges of violating the Food Sanitation Act and the Outdoor Advertising Act.
They are accused of continuing business operations after their business registration expired in December 2021. Additionally, in December of last year, when suspicions arose that Dongbangmyeongju was a domestic base for the Chinese secret police, they installed an unauthorized electronic billboard on the restaurant's exterior wall to clarify the situation.
According to the Outdoor Advertising Management Act, permission from the local district office is required to install digital advertisements using neon or electronic lights and rooftop signs. Songpa District Office filed a complaint against Wang and A for failing to obtain such permission.
