On this day, Mayor Park first expressed his gratitude to Minister Skuodis for visiting Busan, saying, “Lithuania established diplomatic relations with Korea in 1991, and high-level exchanges between the two countries have continued. I hope that Minister Skuodis’s visit to Busan will further enhance exchanges and cooperation between Busan and Lithuania. I understand that Lithuania is promoting energy independence and supply chain diversification by utilizing ultra-large LNG vessels and is striving to expand the use of renewable energy by 80% by 2050.”
In response, Minister Skuodis said, “Thank you for the warm hospitality. This is my first visit to Busan, and I think it is a beautiful and vibrant city. The Independence ship you mentioned is a floating vessel built in Korea that began operation in 2015. Recently, due to increased demand after the Ukraine war, companies in neighboring countries such as Poland are also using it for a fee. I hope that Busan and Lithuania will promote exchanges and cooperation in various fields such as maritime, ports, science and technology, and education,” he replied.

He added, “Klaipeda, one of Lithuania’s cities, is one of the largest transshipment ports in the Baltic region and serves as a gateway to the European market. Lithuania recently has plans to expand its ports, including transportation infrastructure expansion and the construction of offshore wind power complexes. In particular, I hope Korean companies will participate in the railway network construction project connecting the Baltic countries. Also, cooperation with Busan, the world’s second-largest transshipment port, is important,” emphasizing the enhancement of cooperation between Busan and Lithuania.
Mayor Park responded, “I strongly agree on the need to promote exchange and cooperation with Lithuania in maritime, ports, science and technology, and education, and I hope that Busan Port, the largest logistics hub port in Northeast Asia, and Klaipeda Port will cooperate to develop into smart ports,” concluding the meeting.
