View original imageCommissioner Yoon made these remarks while attending the '2023 High-Level International Academic Forum on Counterterrorism' held at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul.
About 150 senior officials from counterterrorism-related organizations participated in the forum, including Ban Ki-moon, the 8th Secretary-General of the United Nations; Yoon Seok-jin, President of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology; Kim Hyuk-soo, Director of the Counterterrorism Center at the Office for Government Policy Coordination; and Christopher O'Donnell, Team Leader of the UN Counterterrorism Office. They presented opinions on the latest trends and responses in counterterrorism and explored ways to strengthen international cooperation.
Secretary-General Ban said, "New technologies such as drones, robots, and the internet are interconnected, leading to unpredictable new-tech terrorism," and described the event as "a timely and meaningful occasion to analyze recent terrorism types and share response strategies."

Vladimir Voronkov, Under-Secretary-General of the UN Counterterrorism Office, emphasized in his keynote speech, "We must pay attention to the unlimited potential threats related to new technologies such as drones, nuclear, chemical, biological, and radiological materials," and stressed, "It is imperative to strengthen multilateralism and international cooperation."
