"Global Cybersecurity Talent to Gather in Sejong Next Month"
Cybersecurity university talents from around the world will gather in Sejong next month.
Sejong City announced on the 19th that it will host the "2023 HackTheon Sejong International University Student Cybersecurity Competition and Conference" at the Government Sejong Convention Center from November 11 to 12.
HackTheon is a compound word of Hacker and Pantheon, meaning "cybersecurity talents gather in Sejong." This competition is in its second year following last year.
Previously, the city held the preliminary round online on October 25 to select teams advancing to the finals. The preliminaries saw 898 university students from 106 universities across 19 countries form 256 teams to participate.
The top 50 teams (196 participants) from seven countries including Korea, the United States, China, India, and Vietnam passed the preliminary round. These teams will compete in the finals on November 11 for a total prize of 65 million KRW.
The final competition will be conducted in a mixed format of problem-solving (Jeopardy) and real-time server attacks (EHRS, Ethical Hacking of Real-time Systems).
In particular, the real-time server attack will be conducted in a bug bounty style, where participants find and exploit vulnerabilities in servers prepared for the competition to earn points, stimulating their competitive spirit.
Alongside the finals, the academic conference will feature lectures by domestic and international experts on the latest technologies such as ▲homomorphic encryption technology ▲artificial intelligence (AI) security monitoring ▲smart mobility ▲autonomous driving technology ▲ChatGPT.
Additionally, invited lectures by international hacking competition winners, an information and communication technology (ICT) company technology (product) exhibition, and a youth talent recruitment fair will be held together.
Attendance at the HackTheon event is possible only after pre-registration on the competition website.
