Eco-Friendly Souvenirs Presented to Challenge Participants
Gwangyang City in Jeollanam-do announced a proposal to participate in the "Spring Bicycle Riding Challenge Along the Seomjin River," promoting eco-friendly travel on the upcoming "Earth Day (April 22)."
On the 22nd (Saturday), the Gwangyang City Tourism Council (Chairman Lee Gwisik) will host the "Spring Bicycle Riding Challenge Along the Seomjin River" on the Seomjin River Bicycle Path.
This event is organized to ride together along the Seomjin River using bicycles, an eco-friendly mode of transportation, to raise awareness of the importance of the environment and sustainable travel, and to brand Gwangyang tourism.
The bicycle riding challenge will operate two round-trip courses: a beginner course (Baealdo Neighborhood Park to Seomjin River Kkeutdeul Village) and an intermediate course (Baealdo Neighborhood Park to Seomjin River Kkeutdeul Village to Sinwon Samgeori).
The event will begin at 9 a.m. on the day with an opening ceremony at the main stage of Baealdo Neighborhood Park, followed by safety instructions and guidelines, warm-up exercises, the main riding event, and side events.
The challenge will recruit 200 participants on a first-come, first-served basis, and anyone can participate.
Participants practicing sustainable travel in the bicycle riding challenge will receive eco-friendly souvenirs.
Jung Gu-young, Director of the Tourism Division, said, "On Earth Day, established in 1970 to protect the global environment, we hope this opportunity to ride bicycles?the most eco-friendly mode of transportation?along the most beautiful Seomjin Riverbank will allow everyone to reflect once again on the value of nature and the environment."
He added, "This riding challenge is expected to be a meaningful event where the public and private sectors collaborate to brand the beautiful and attractive Gwangyang tourism, including Baealdo Island Garden and Mangdeok Port, which the Seomjin River Bicycle Path embraces. Please strictly follow all safety rules and guidelines until the end to ensure a healthy and safe ride."
Meanwhile, the Seomjin River Bicycle Path, selected as one of the "100 Beautiful Bicycle Paths" by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, is a 154 km grand course passing through eight certification centers from Seomjin River Dam to Baealdo Neighborhood Park, boasting stunning scenery and the best road surface.
