On the 19th, Yongin City announced that it was selected for the '2023 Han River Basin Waterfront Green Space Creation' public contest by the Han River Basin Environmental Office on the 13th, and will create an 8,000㎡ (2,400-pyeong) urban forest within Yubang-dong 234-2, Cheoin-gu by the end of this year.
The city will create the urban forest by adding 300 million KRW of city funds to the 300 million KRW of national funds secured through the contest selection.
The urban forest, located between Dunjeon Station and Bopyeong Station on the Yongin Light Rail Transit, is an area densely populated with nearby apartments and multi-family houses, where citizens have continuously requested the creation of a park.
Reflecting citizens' requests, the city will develop the Yubang-dong urban forest as a small urban park featuring a lawn plaza. Various trees and flowering plants will be planted to add diverse seasonal attractions, and convenience facilities such as pergolas and benches will be installed to provide a resting place where citizens can relax.
A city official said, "We are creating a park where everyone from children to the elderly can enjoy leisure in an open space, adding vitality to daily life, and where citizens walking along the Gyeongan Stream can take a short rest," adding, "We will continue to do our best to secure waterfront green spaces by utilizing idle public land around the Gyeongan Stream area."
