Busan School Facility Opening Rate Surpasses Pre-COVID Levels
On the 18th, the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education announced that the school facility opening rate in the Busan area was 84% as of March.
This is higher than the 83% opening rate before COVID-19 in April 2019 and represents a 28% increase compared to the 56% opening rate in July after the facility reopening measures last year.
Since the gradual easing of COVID-19 quarantine measures last year, there has been a significant increase in community demand for opening school facilities. In response, the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education has been promoting the expansion of school facility openings to redefine the role of schools as community-friendly hub facilities and to foster coexistence between schools and local communities.
In January, the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education revised the "Regulations on the Opening and Use of Facilities of All Schools Below High School Level in Busan." The revision clarified provisions such as canceling permission and restricting use for users who violate usage rules without holding the school principal responsible in case of accidents, thereby reducing the burden on schools regarding facility openings.
Additionally, based on the "Ordinance on Supporting the Activation of School Facility Use in Busan," enacted in March, measures are being prepared to address difficulties faced by schools due to facility openings, such as shortages of after-school and holiday management personnel. Through these efforts, the Office of Education plans to continuously increase the school facility opening rate.
