"Losing a Large Sum to Jeonse Fraud... Preventing Eviction Must Come First"
Jeonse Fraud Victim MBC Radio Interview
"If Evicted, Only Priority Repayment Is Saved... Feeling Helpless"
In the past two months, three victims of the "Incheon Construction King" Jeonse fraud have taken extreme measures, and Ahn Sang-mi, Chairperson of the Jeonse Fraud Victims Countermeasures Committee in Michuhol-gu, Incheon, emphasized that "we must first stop the evictions" and urgently called for a halt to the auction procedures.
On the 18th, Chairperson Ahn appeared on MBC Radio's "Kim Jong-bae's Focus" and lamented the Jeonse fraud victims' plight, saying, "The victims have lost a large sum of money, so they need to earn money, but they feel hopeless."
She said, "Due to personal circumstances, this Jeonse deposit was my remaining asset, but now it looks like I will lose it all. I am currently living in this house, but I don't know when I will have to leave," adding, "If I get evicted, there is nothing I can salvage except the priority repayment of 27 million won. I am at a loss about how to secure my next residence with that amount."
In this situation, houses victimized by Jeonse fraud are increasingly being put up for auction. Chairperson Ahn stated, "Other victims are continuously losing their bids. After the third auction, the property is automatically sold," and added, "Auction hunters are quick to act." She continued, "As soon as the property is sold, certified letters demanding eviction are sent out, and such stories keep coming in."
Ahn said the most practical countermeasure for Jeonse fraud victims is to allow them to successfully bid on the house they currently live in. She called for government-level measures to give Jeonse fraud victims priority in auctions and to facilitate related loans.
She explained, "If loans are to be provided, they should be done realistically so that victims can either buy another house or successfully bid on their current one. However, loans have been given only for the next Jeonse deposit," adding, "They say they maintain the status of being homeless, but victims cannot win the bids because auction hunters outbid them."
She continued, "Those with existing loans need those loans resolved first, but without resolving existing loans, they cannot get new loans, and various conditions apply," and said, "In the end, when they try to do something, nothing works, and this situation continues."

Chairperson Ahn also raised suspicions that some of the conspirators involved in the "Incheon Construction King" Jeonse fraud are attempting to bid as auction hunters. She said, "Currently, four people are detained, and including those not detained, about ten people have had their first trial. As far as I know, there are 59 conspirators in total, but the rest have not faced any legal action," adding, "There are even open talks among the group saying, 'We will prevent tenants from buying their homes.'"
