Google Cloud and Gyeongbuk Province Collaborate to Foster AI Talent... AI Promotion Center Established at Andong University
Governor Lee Cheol-woo and Director Paul Wilson Agreement
On the 18th, Gyeongbuk Province signed an agreement with Google Cloud to foster global artificial intelligence talent.
First, starting from the second half of this year, a pilot project will establish an AI Promotion Center at Andong National University, aiming to train about 100 personnel.
The program will include courses ranging from AI cloud practical courses accessible to non-majors to specialized developer courses for ICT field majors.
This pilot project, targeting students of Andong National University and Gyeongbuk Provincial College, will be conducted with professional instructors in partnership with Google's certified education partners, and will be structured as an intensive curriculum totaling 200 to 300 hours by linking regular semester courses and vacation camps.
Students enrolled will not only receive official academic credits but also be supported in obtaining certifications such as Google Associate Cloud Engineer (expert level) and Google Digital Leader (general course), nurturing AI talent with international competitiveness.
Additionally, next year, a “Job Fair” involving Google Cloud partners and related companies will be held to actively support local students' employment and entrepreneurship.
This agreement is significant as it marks the first time a global big tech company like Google Cloud has partnered with a local government, and it is expected to greatly contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of regional universities facing challenges.
Based on this pilot project, Gyeongbuk Province plans to expand the employment-oriented youth talent (university students) training project and extend cooperation with Google Cloud to include practical workforce training for company employees and public-private bridge-type talent (public officials) development.
Paul Wilson, Head of Public Sector for Google Cloud Asia Pacific and Japan, who visited Gyeongbuk Provincial Office for the agreement, said, “We are honored that Google Cloud will play a strategic role in opening the era of local governance that Gyeongsangbuk-do aims for,” adding, “We look forward to continuing to create successful collaboration cases with the Korean government.”
Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, recalling his visit to Google's headquarters in 2018, said, “I am pleased that Gyeongbuk has found a good friend in Google Cloud in this era of digital transformation. I hope cooperation will expand into various fields such as industry, culture, and tourism, using educational services as a stepping stone.”
