Sunchang-gun Successfully Concludes 'Citizen's Day and Sports Festival' Events in Jungang-ro Area

On the 17th, Sunchang-gun, Jeonbuk announced that it successfully concluded the ‘61st Sunchang Residents’ Day and Sports Festival’ held from the 14th to the 16th at Jungang-ro in Sunchang-eup and the public sports stadium area.

The Residents’ Day event on the 14th attracted 10,000 residents and tourists around Jungang-ro in Sunchang-eup.

The event featured a variety of cultural and artistic performances, starting with a lantern parade, traditional Gossaum (Korean traditional bullfighting), Daechwita (royal military music), and pungmul (traditional Korean percussion music) performances, creating a venue for community harmony and communication, which received great acclaim from local residents.

The commemorative ceremony began with a speech by Choi Young-il, the mayor of Sunchang-gun, followed by the presentation of the Sunchang Residents’ Award to individuals who contributed to the development and honor of Sunchang-gun, and appreciation plaques to those who contributed to regional development.

The highlight of the event, the Residents’ Harmony Concert, featured popular singers Song Ga-in and Park Sang-chul, who performed hit songs for the fully packed local audience, elevating the atmosphere of the event. The festival concluded with a spectacular fireworks display.

Additionally, on the 15th and 16th, the day after Residents’ Day, the Residents’ Sports Festival was held over two days at the Sunchang Public Sports Stadium, adding significance to the event. Despite the inclement weather, residents gathered together, demonstrating solidarity and proudly expressing their local pride while enjoying a joyful time.

Mayor Choi Young-il said, “I am pleased and honored that the first-ever Residents’ Day and Residents’ Sports Festival were held under the slogan of a happy administration for all residents. I hope this event provides a small comfort to the residents and becomes a brief but precious time to feel the harmony, health, and proud spirit of Sunchang people.”
