Goheung-gun Selected for Unmanned Mobile Monitoring Demonstration Institution Establishment Project

A Total of 18.8 Billion Won Invested to Seize Leadership in Drone Demonstration Sector

Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) is expected to gain more momentum in building the "Drone-Centered City Goheung" by taking the lead in the drone demonstration sector of the Southern Coastal Area (Jeollanam-do, Gyeongsangnam-do, Busan) for the establishment of a Korean-style unmanned mobility integrated control system.

On the 17th, Goheung-gun announced that it was selected for the "Southern Coastal Area Unmanned Mobility Monitoring and Demonstration Infrastructure Construction Project," which covers a super-regional area including Jeollanam-do, Gyeongsangnam-do, and Busan, in the 2023 Smart Specialization Foundation Construction Project competition hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology.

A total project cost of 18.8 billion KRW will be invested over three years. The project will enhance the already established unmanned mobility infrastructure in each region and build new equipment to foster the unmanned mobility industry through the growth of drone companies and the creation of service markets.

The newly constructed and upgraded major facilities and equipment include ▲Integrated Control System (upgrade) ▲Big Data System (upgrade) ▲Mobile Control Vehicle ▲Noise Measurement System ▲Drone Inspection System, among others.

This project will enable drone companies in the three regions to easily utilize the infrastructure through the establishment of an integrated control system and upgraded big data system facilities linked among the three local governments.

Data collected from mission demonstrations such as red tide and environmental monitoring, inter-island goods delivery, and marine debris surveillance will be utilized through the big data system to discover and spread new business models.

With this project selection, Goheung-gun expects to resolve issues of redundant investment during the development and demonstration of unmanned mobility technologies such as drones, secure core technologies, and open up various service markets using drones.

In particular, the integrated control system and big data system upgrade facilities, which are the core of this project, are scheduled to be established at the Goheung Drone Center located in Goheung-gun. As various unmanned mobility demonstration data from the Southern Coastal Area are integrated and accumulated in Goheung-gun, Goheung-gun has taken the lead in the drone demonstration sector.

Governor Gong Young-min said, "The drone industry is a promising future industry, and we will spare no administrative support and efforts to ensure that the drone industry plays a pivotal role in establishing the foundation for a population of 100,000 in Goheung 10 years from now."
