Gwangju Police Agency Declares 'War on Drugs'
Gwangju Police Agency announced on the 17th that it will operate a joint task force involving all departments to eradicate drug-related crimes and launch a large-scale focused crackdown.
The joint task force is composed of a total of 159 personnel from 29 teams across 8 divisions, including criminal investigation, investigation, and intelligence, led by Im Yong-hwan, Chief of Gwangju Police Agency. They will review progress and discuss countermeasures twice a month.
All investigative departments, including criminal investigation, will mobilize their full capabilities to conduct comprehensive investigations. In particular, to respond to the recent surge in internet drug crimes, they plan to engage in proactive investigative activities such as online crackdowns.
Through the ‘Investigation Working Council’ composed of police, prosecutors, and customs, they will strengthen cooperation in drug investigations and establish a joint response system with related agencies by conducting joint inspections and crackdowns on medical narcotics with the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.

Especially, to prevent similar or copycat crimes targeting students, such as the ‘drug beverage intimidation incident targeting students’ that occurred in Gangnam, they plan to actively engage in educational and preventive activities against youth drug crimes.
