Seoul City Announces Recruitment for Participants in the 2023 Seoul Citizen League (S-League)
Over 10,000 Participants in 9 Events
‘2023 Seoul Citizens League (hereinafter S-League)’, where any Seoul citizen can participate as a player and compete in sports skills, announced on the 16th that it will sequentially recruit participants (teams) by sport starting tomorrow.
First launched in 2015 and now in its 9th year of operation, the ‘S-League’ is a community sports model where citizens are the main players, and it is waiting for new challenges from citizens again this year in the everyday life returning after COVID-19.
This year, a total of 754 teams and about 10,000 community sports enthusiasts will be recruited across 9 sports including soccer, futsal, basketball, table tennis, jokgu, volleyball, baseball, boxing, and billiards, and the league will run for about 8 months from April to November.
Any citizen residing in Seoul or attending work or school in Seoul can participate. Seoul City is expanding participation opportunities and scope by subdividing participation categories by gender, age, and skill level for each sport to ensure balanced participation across various age groups.
The S-League systematically manages data such as team rankings, individual scores, and in-game penalties and rewards through a ‘record management system’ just like professional leagues. Through this, it operates as a high-level league that can help develop the skills of individual players.
This year, considering local sports facilities and region-specific specialized sports, a ‘District-based League’ will be piloted. The District-based League is planned to utilize available local sports facilities to foster new and specialized sports, and to enable beginners to easily participate in the league and regularly engage in exercise.
Citizens wishing to participate in the S-League can check the schedule for each sport and apply through the website opening at 9 AM on the 17th. For detailed information about the operation of the ‘2023 Seoul Citizens League (S-League)’, inquiries can be made through the website, Seoul Sports Council, and respective sports associations.
