Utilizing Public and Big Data... Idea and Product Service Development for Social Issue Resolution in 2 Categories
Total Prize Money 14 Million KRW, 4 Teams per Category, 2 Teams for Grand Prize Qualify for Ministry of the Interior and Safety Finals
Busan Metropolitan City is holding the '2023 Busan Metropolitan City Public and Big Data Utilization Startup Competition' to discover ideas for solving social issues and innovative business models in the private sector using public and big data, and is accepting applications from the 14th to June 16th.
Since 2017, the Busan Startup Competition has been held annually and serves as a regional preliminary round for the nationwide startup competition hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
Moreover, the city is making efforts to create a virtuous cycle in the local startup ecosystem by providing follow-up support to participating teams so they can commercialize their ideas and grow into startups.
This competition is divided into two categories: ▲planning ideas to solve social issues using public data ▲product and service development. Anyone who has such ideas or products can participate.
Applications can be submitted via email by 6:00 PM on June 16th. For more details, please refer to the announcements on the websites of Busan City, Busan Technopark, or Centap.

The city plans to select a total of eight teams, four from each category, through document and presentation evaluations. The top two teams receiving the grand prize in each category will qualify to participate in the integrated finals hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. To enhance competitiveness in the finals and support commercialization, startup company presentations (IR), expert mentoring, and citizen-participation service experience demonstrations will also be provided.
Shin Chang-ho, Director of the Digital Economy Innovation Office of Busan City, said, “We will create meaningful connections with Busan City’s ongoing projects to provide greater opportunities for participants so that the competition can lead to actual commercialization.” He added, “We hope many citizens with fresh ideas and plans will participate and create new opportunities through this competition.”
