Daegu Subway Line 1 Trains 204 Units Usable for 39 Years... "No Safety Issues"
"Safety Inspection Results: Usable for 13 More Years"
Expected Budget Savings of 36 Billion Won
Daegu Transportation Corporation announced on the 14th that, according to the Railway Safety Act, a detailed safety inspection and remaining lifespan evaluation were conducted on 204 trains of Line 1, and it was assessed that they can operate until 2035.
Currently, the Line 1 trains have been in operation for 26 years since their opening in 1997. After evaluating their remaining lifespan for additional operation, it was recognized that the trains have maintained the best maintenance condition, allowing them to operate for another 13 years.
This evaluation shows that the remaining lifespan of these trains is 4 to 6 years longer than that of urban railway trains in other regions. This also reflects how well the corporation has managed the trains so far. With this extension of the remaining lifespan, the corporation expects to save at least 36 billion KRW in budget.
