Vice Minister Park Yoon-gyu: "Telecommunication Fee Information Provision Must Be Strengthened"
The Ministry of Science and ICT held a meeting on the 13th to discuss directions for improving telecommunications fee policies.
Park Yoon-kyu, the 2nd Vice Minister, pointed out, "Although recent efforts have diversified the fee plans compared to before, considering that no fee plans in the 20?100GB range have been launched for a considerable period since the commercialization of 5G despite consumer demand, it is difficult to say that competition among providers is active." He added, "The more users know about telecommunications fees, compare them, and make choices, the more telecom companies will compete to be selected by users," emphasizing, "Policies to strengthen the provision of telecommunications fee information should also be promoted to support users in making rational choices based on sufficient information."

As part of these efforts, through continuous consultations with telecom companies, the Ministry has promoted diversification of fee plans, resulting in new registrations by SKT and LGU+ for 5G mid-tier segmentation, senior plans cheaper than general fee plans, and youth plans with expanded data benefits. Through prompt wholesale provision, 5G mid-tier fee plans will also be launched for MVNOs.
The meeting was organized under the recognition that it is necessary to discuss ways to fundamentally promote competition in the telecommunications market to alleviate the burden of telecommunications costs on the public by encouraging fee competition.
