Boa Song Inserted in Promotional Video
"Attempt to Appeal to Chinese Tourists"
North Korea, which has been strictly cracking down on Hallyu content such as Korean dramas, was confirmed to have used a song by singer BoA as background music in a promotional video created to attract Chinese tourists.
According to North Korea specialist media NK News on the 13th, a promotional video about 5 minutes and 30 seconds long was uploaded on the Weibo account 'Goryeoro Deryeoga Jwo' on the 31st of last month. The video features a woman named Eun-ah touring the streets of Pyongyang.
This is presumed to be a promotional video made by Seogwang Media, under the North Korean state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), to attract Chinese tourists. Seogwang Media has been posting videos promoting North Korea abroad for over a year through Twitter and YouTube.

In particular, the last scene of the video features the song 'Moon & Sunrise' by singer BoA. This song inserted in the video is an instrumental track without lyrics, included in BoA's second single album released in 2003.
The media analyzed, "Inserting BoA's song in the video may be an attempt to appeal to Chinese tourists," adding, "China has long been an important market in the Korean entertainment sector."
Meanwhile, North Korea has been imposing long-term imprisonment on people using external content such as from South Korea since enacting the Anti-Reactionary Thought and Culture Expulsion Law in 2020.
