On the 12th (local time), Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon, who was on a business trip to the United States, signed the 'Gyeonggi Youth Ladder Program Agreement between Gyeonggi Province and State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNY Buffalo)' with Satish K. Tripathi, President of SUNY Buffalo, at the SUNY Global Center located in New York, USA, the province announced on the 13th.
Accordingly, this year alone, more than 80 young people from Gyeonggi Province will be able to participate in overseas training at two prestigious American universities: the University of Michigan and SUNY Buffalo.
Notably, John B. King, Jr., who served as the U.S. Secretary of Education during the Clinton administration and currently oversees all 64 universities affiliated with SUNY, made a surprise visit to the signing ceremony, adding significance to the event. Governor Kim and President King exchanged views on the expectations and importance of the Gyeonggi Youth Ladder Program during their conversation.
The Gyeonggi Youth Ladder Program is a project that supports overseas training programs for young people in Gyeonggi Province, aiming to reduce social disparities and provide opportunities for diverse career development.
Under this agreement, SUNY Buffalo will operate an overseas training program named 'Gyeonggi Youth Ladder.' The province is currently recruiting 50 young participants for the program, which is expected to start as early as July.
Participants in the Gyeonggi Youth Ladder Program will receive four weeks of classes prepared by the university, including language training, cultural experiences, company visits, and team projects.
The agreement is valid until 2025, and Gyeonggi Province will select and send more than 50 young people annually to SUNY Buffalo. The number 50 represents the largest scale among program participants from various institutions. Especially since this is SUNY Buffalo’s first overseas training program for young people, it is known to be receiving special attention.
Governor Kim said, "During my time as president of Ajou University, I witnessed how much students changed after going abroad. I am confident that 50 young people from Gyeonggi will have a rewarding time here this year." He added, "I am pleased to send Gyeonggi youth to a prestigious American university. Starting this year, we will ensure that even more young people can take on good opportunities next year."
The State University of New York at Buffalo campus is a public comprehensive university located in Buffalo, New York, USA.
