KIOST's 50th Anniversary, Publication of the 50th Volume of 'Ocean Library Dreaming of the Future'
The Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST) celebrated its 50th anniversary this year by publishing the 50th volume of the marine science book series "Future Dreaming Marine Library."
Since 2007, KIOST has been publishing the specialized marine science popular science book series "Future Dreaming Marine Library" to broaden the understanding of marine science among youth and the general public and to inspire dreams and imagination about the sea.
Containing general knowledge about the sea as well as the latest research achievements, "Future Dreaming Marine Library" is the only popular book series in the field of marine science, with all books directly contributed to by KIOST’s expert researchers.
Recognized for its excellence, the series has been selected as outstanding books by government ministries such as the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Environment, and Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity, as well as by major media outlets and the Sejong Book Award by the Korea Publication Culture Association.

View original imageThe 50th volume, "Climate Change and the Sea," highlights the vulnerability of humans and ecosystems exposed to climate change and sheds light on the role of the ocean as a regulator of climate change.
The book introduces the flow of climate change research and response, the Earth system circulation, climate change and the sea, and the importance of the ocean for carbon neutrality, raising awareness of climate change, which has already become part of our daily lives.
A KIOST official stated, "Along with the 'Future Dreaming Marine Library,' we have played a role in enhancing public marine literacy through various publications such as the 'Science-Viewed Sea' series (10 volumes) and the 'Marine Science Series' (10 volumes)."

He added, "We will continue to strive to expand understanding of marine science among youth and the general public and to widely disseminate specialized knowledge related to the ocean by developing and distributing diverse marine science content."
