Goheung-gun Actively Operates Food Bank for Vulnerable Groups

Food Donation by Sarang Nanum Store Practicing 'Neighborly Love'

Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) announced that the "Donation Food Provision Project" (Food Bank), which has been operated in partnership with the Goheung-gun Social Welfare Council (Chairman Kim Kyung-soo) since 2011, is providing strong support to marginalized neighbors.

The "Donation Food Provision Project" is a sharing initiative that collects food and daily necessities from food manufacturers nationwide or individuals and delivers them to low-income vulnerable groups facing food insecurity, aiming to promote donations and enhance social welfare.

The Goheung-gun Food Bank, operated through this project, designates local businesses that regularly donate food or goods every month as "Love Sharing Stores" and holds plaque ceremonies. Starting with Paris Baguette Goheung branch in 2012, currently eight locations are participating in this project.

In particular, among the Love Sharing Stores, the agricultural corporation Enzyme Farm (CEO Kim Ju-ho) donated jam worth 24 million KRW last year and on the 10th recently delivered strawberry, blueberry, and fig jams worth 10 million KRW directly produced by them to the Food Bank, pledging to continue donating frequently to help neighbors in need within the county.

Also, at the Goheung Smart Farm Innovation Valley, trainees donated 300kg of tomatoes (worth 2 million KRW) that they cultivated themselves.

Kang Chun-ja, Director of the Resident Welfare Division, said, "There are still many places in the local community where help is needed, such as elderly people living alone and low-income families," and added, "The Goheung-gun Food Bank collects donations of food and goods to support vulnerable groups and restore community functions, so we hope for voluntary donations and participation from businesses and residents."

Kim Kyung-soo, Chairman of the Goheung-gun Social Welfare Council, said, "Last year, we connected 6,277 cases of food and goods worth 154 million KRW to neighbors in need," and added, "Businesses and individuals wishing to donate to the Food Bank, as well as individuals wishing to receive donations, should apply to the Goheung-gun Basic Food Bank."
