Spreading Cardiovascular Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Methods to Underdeveloped Countries
JW Pharmaceutical announced on the 12th that it has selected Jin-sik Park, Chairman of Sejong Hospital of the Hyewon Medical Foundation, as the recipient of the 31st JW Jungoe Philanthropy Award. The JW Jungoe Philanthropy Award, jointly established by JW Pharmaceutical and the Korean Hospital Association, honors medical professionals who embody the spirit of philanthropy in society, and this year marks its 31st anniversary.
Since assuming his position at Bucheon Sejong Hospital in 2008, Chairman Park has served as Planning Director, Head of Strategic Planning, and Hospital Director. Based on the hospital’s founding philosophy of "For a World Without Heart Disease," he has led efforts to give new life to domestic and international heart disease patients who could not receive treatment due to financial difficulties, JW Pharmaceutical explained.
Bucheon Sejong Hospital, through the charitable practices of Chairman Park and the medical staff, has performed free surgeries on 12,788 heart disease patients in Korea since its opening in 1983 until February of this year. Notably, during the same period, 1,605 surgeries were performed on overseas children with heart disease, marking the longest duration and highest number of patients treated by a private hospital.
Chairman Park also operates training programs for medical personnel from Asia and underdeveloped countries, spreading advanced cardiovascular disease diagnosis and treatment methods. To date, over 200 overseas medical professionals have participated in the training. Additionally, the hospital has established cooperative relationships with more than 50 overseas medical institutions.
The recipients of the JW Jungoe Volunteer Award, presented alongside the JW Jungoe Philanthropy Award, are Professor Kyung-won Lee of Gyeongsang National University Hospital and Administrative Director Joon-duk Kwon of Asan Chungmu Hospital under the Youngseo Medical Foundation.
The award ceremony will be held on the 14th at Lotte Hotel Seoul in Jung-gu, Seoul.
