Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will hold the '2023 Bulamsan Azalea Festival' for 16 days in line with the blooming season of 100,000 azalea bushes at Bulamsan Healing Town, the district's representative attraction.
‘Bulamsan Healing Town’ is a representative healing space in the district, gathering various facilities such as the ‘Azalea Hill’ where 100,000 azalea bushes bloom, the ‘Butterfly Garden’ where you can observe living butterflies 365 days a year, the ‘Nowon Garden Support Center’ with a greenhouse caf? and a companion plant hospital, the ‘Forest Healing Center’ for mental and physical relaxation away from daily life, and an ‘Elevator Observatory’ for those with mobility difficulties.
In a 2021 survey conducted among residents, the ‘Creation of Bulamsan Healing Town’ was selected as the most satisfying project, receiving high praise from residents. Moreover, about 250,000 people visited during last year’s azalea blooming season, establishing Bulamsan Healing Town as Nowon-gu’s representative attraction.
Accordingly, the district will hold the '2023 Bulamsan Azalea Festival' for 16 days from the 15th to the 30th, showcasing various cultural programs alongside the azaleas in bloom.
First, various experiential programs will be operated using key facilities within Bulamsan Healing Town. Specialized programs by facility include ▲‘Butterfly Sand Art Making’ at Bulamsan Butterfly Garden ▲‘Pressed Flower Bookmark Making’ at Nowon Garden Support Center ▲‘Health Check’, ‘Herbal Foot Bath and Cypress Massage’ at Forest Healing Center ▲‘Azalea Keychain Making’ at the Infant Forest Experience Center. Especially, ‘Cafe Forest’ inside the Nowon Garden Support Center will sell special azalea season beverages and desserts, and an insect and plant specimen exhibition will be held on the road next to the center to stimulate children’s curiosity.
Details such as operating hours, locations, and participation fees for each program can be found on the Nowon-gu Office website. Participation fees range from free to 5,000 KRW and can be paid on-site on the day of the event.
Performance programs that the whole family can enjoy regardless of age or gender are also prepared. Performances will be held four days on weekends during the festival period (15th, 16th, 22nd, 23rd), three times a day (2 PM, 3 PM, 4 PM) at Bulamsan Healing Shelter (lower deck) area.
▲Soap bubble show ‘Fun & Bubble’ ▲Circus performance ‘Sound Circus’ ▲Aerial performance ‘Oebonginsaeng’ ▲Brass band concert ‘Singsingsing Concert’ ▲Traditional Korean music & B-boy performance ‘Gwanggaeto Samulnori’ will captivate visitors with dazzling performances. Especially, the world’s only visually impaired band ‘Hanbit Arts Troupe’ will perform famous songs such as the theme song of the recently popular drama 'Extraordinary Attorney Woo' and singer Yoon Jong-shin’s ‘Uphill Road’, offering a unique emotional experience to conclude the first weekend performances.
For smooth operation, the district plans to set up an operation booth in front of Bulamsan Butterfly Garden to distribute leaflets and respond immediately in case of emergencies. To prepare for weekend crowds, the deck path of Azalea Hill will be operated as a one-way route. Two food trucks will also be operated behind the Healing Shelter for light refreshments.
Special parking measures have also been prepared. In addition to the permanent parking lot at Bulamsan Healing Town (52 spaces), temporary parking lots will be operated. On six weekends expected to have many visitors, Wonkwang Elementary School and Junggye Middle School playgrounds will be opened as parking lots.
Also, some roads around Bulamsan Healing Town will temporarily allow parking by suspending parking enforcement. The application period is during the 16-day festival from 9 AM to 6 PM, and the suspension zones include Hangulbiseok-ro 14-gil, from Satgatbong Neighborhood Park to Jungang Heights Apartment, with banners displayed at the locations.
