Training Specialized Workforce for Regional Key Industries ... Laying the Foundation for a New Hope in the Gumi Era
Si·Gumi University Selected for This Year's Higher Vocational Education Hub District (HiVE) Project
Gumi City, in consortium with Gumi University (President Lee Seung-hwan), has been selected for the Ministry of Education’s 2023 Higher Vocational Education Hub District (HiVE) Project (hereinafter referred to as the ‘HiVE Project’).
The HiVE Project is a program where junior colleges and basic local governments establish cooperative systems to respond to declining school-age populations and regional extinction by supporting the training of specialized local talent and lifelong vocational education. The Gumi University-Gumi City consortium is expected to receive a total budget of 4 billion KRW over the next two years, including 3.6 billion KRW in national funds and 400 million KRW in city funds.
Through this project, Gumi City and Gumi University will focus on nurturing talent in specialized local fields such as semiconductors, metaverse marketing, and urban landscape design. They will also promote various vocational education capacity-building projects, including a specialized semiconductor production process course aimed at expanding the resident workforce, as well as social contribution programs to address regional issues.
President Lee Seung-hwan expressed his determination, stating, “We will promote projects essential to the region, such as discovering talent based on local industries and creating quality jobs, through close and systematic cooperation and effective program operation.”
