Jeonnam Province Puts Full Effort into Customized Workforce Training and Youth Settlement
Operation of the '2023 Industry-Academia Cooperation Employment Package Program'
Jeonnam Province is putting all its efforts into customized workforce training and encouraging young people to settle in the region.
On the 10th, the province announced that it will operate the "2023 Industry-Academia Cooperation Employment Package Program," which fosters industry-tailored workforce and induces youth to settle locally through employment connections with regional companies.
The nine universities in the province participating in the Industry-Academia Cooperation Employment Package Program sign agreements with 30 to 50 companies, then open 20 industry-customized courses, provide job competency training desired by companies, and connect students to employment at local companies.
Students participating in the program receive scholarships, employment competency enhancement training, mock interviews, job placement assistance, and mentoring. For companies, family company agreements and company briefing sessions are held to help them hire outstanding creative talents.
The participating universities include ▲ Dongshin University with five project groups in future energy, global tourism, natural bio-pharmaceuticals, health and welfare society, and rural development ▲ Mokpo National University with four project groups in shipbuilding and marine, global business, energy ICT (Information and Communication Technology), and clean energy systems ▲ Suncheon National University with two project groups in clean bio-food and functional chemical materials ▲ Mokpo Maritime University with two project groups in marine leisure and smart marine ICT ▲ Mokpo Catholic University’s human services project group ▲ Suncheon Jeil College with two project groups in steel chemical safety equipment and wellness industry ▲ Cheongam College with two project groups in health care services and corporate disaster safety management ▲ Mokpo Science University specializing in centenarian workforce training ▲ and the Provincial College’s glocal tourism service course.
The province supports 180 million KRW in project expenses per course and provides additional differentiated funding annually based on performance evaluations.
Students wishing to participate in this year’s program can inquire at each university’s Industry-Academia Cooperation Employment Package project group.
Yoo Hyun-ho, head of the Jeonnam Province Job Economy Headquarters, said, “The Industry-Academia Cooperation Employment Package Program is a project aimed at preventing the outflow of excellent talents from local universities to the metropolitan area and resolving the manpower supply-demand imbalance with regional companies. We will continue to strive to discover jobs that local companies need and young people want.”

Since starting with six universities and six courses in 2016, Jeonnam Province has expanded to operate 20 courses at nine universities (14 four-year and 6 two- to three-year programs), with 4,014 students participating in employment competency enhancement programs so far.
