The MINIX mini dryer developed by lifestyle appliance startup 'AtHome' has appeared at The Hyundai Seoul in Yeouido. It is the first domestic small appliance brand to open a pop-up store at The Hyundai Seoul. On the 9th, Lee Seon-kyung (31), who lives in Gangseo-gu, said, "It seems suitable for single-person households," as she toured the store with her friends. The MINIX pop-up store, located on the 5th floor, features a retro laundromat concept targeting the MZ generation's sensibilities. With apricot and orange-colored walls as the backdrop, cute and charming props are placed around, prompting passersby to repeatedly take photos with their smartphones.
A newlywed couple in their 30s from Mapo-gu purchased a green mini dryer that day. The wife, Hwang, said, "We decided to buy a dryer because the number of times we run the washing machine will likely increase during the summer." The mini dryer's capacity is 3 kg, capable of drying 10 household towels. Notably, the green model is priced at 349,000 KRW, which is 10,000 KRW cheaper than the white and beige versions. An AtHome representative explained, "The noise level when running the dryer is about 46 decibels, which is relatively quiet," adding, "It is also suitable for households with children or pets."
The mini dryer is the flagship product of the MINIX brand launched by AtHome in 2021. Demand surged as people spent more time at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The product is 100% domestically manufactured and offers drying, deodorizing, sterilizing, and dust removal functions. In May last year, AtHome released the MINIX Mini Dryer Pro model, which added powerful mode, wool/delicate mode, and garment care functions. They also started a bold marketing campaign offering a 100% refund if customers are dissatisfied after one month of use.
With its stylish design and colors, women in their 20s and 30s make up 70% of the buyers. Weighing 16 kg, it can be moved by women alone, and since it expels moisture as steam, it can be installed anywhere. Using a PTC heater method with low power consumption, it reduces electricity bill burdens. Thanks to these advantages, it holds the number one cumulative sales record in the mini dryer market.
At The Hyundai pop-up store, discounts are offered not only on mini dryers but also on beam projectors and dishwashers, along with gifts for each product. The pop-up store will be open until the 20th.
Yang Jeong-ho, the CEO who founded AtHome, is a young entrepreneur born in 1993 and graduated from Yongin University's Department of Sports Leisure Studies. He self-studied online marketing and business administration, gaining practical experience by selling LED masks and topper mattresses through OEM methods. Starting with sales of 6.2 billion KRW in the first year of founding in 2018, the company recorded 47 billion KRW in 2021 and 45.5 billion KRW last year. These achievements were made solely through AtHome's competitiveness without the help of venture capital or other investors.
