The warning prohibits air traffic in the nearby area because volcanic ash can enter aircraft engines and cause mechanical failures.
Russian disaster authorities stated that no damage to residents or tourists has been reported so far. The Bezymianny volcano is located about 350 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the capital of Kamchatka Krai.
Kamchatka has about 30 active volcanoes, and the Bezymianny volcano, situated at an altitude of 2,880 meters, is one of the most active volcanoes in the world.
The Kamchatka volcanic region, where the terrain is still changing due to ongoing volcanic activity, is designated as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site.
Meanwhile, the Kamchatka Peninsula hosts a nuclear warhead missile submarine base of the Russian Pacific Fleet.
