Gyeongsang National University Selected as 'Intangible Cultural Heritage Transmission Education School'
Operation of National Intangible Cultural Heritage 'Jinju Geommu'
Gyeongsang National University announced on the 10th that it has been selected as an operating support school for the Cultural Heritage Administration's '2023 Intangible Cultural Heritage Transmission Education School.'
The Intangible Cultural Heritage Transmission Education School is a project aimed at nurturing young and excellent intangible cultural heritage transmitters and revitalizing the transmission of intangible heritage. Through this project, intangible cultural heritage transmission education is linked with school education to expand the entry path to traditional culture and establish various transmission systems for future generations.
The Department of Folk Dance at Gyeongsang National University was selected for the region's national intangible cultural heritage, 'Jinju Geommu,' and will carry out the project for three years from April to February 2026. The project will be conducted within the university curriculum. The Cultural Heritage Administration will support Gyeongsang National University with 60 million KRW annually, totaling 180 million KRW over three years, to cover expenses necessary for transmission education such as textbook development costs, education program operation costs, and transmission scholarships.
The project involves faculty members including Professor Kang In-suk (research director) and Professor Lim Su-jeong (head of the Department of Folk Dance), as well as Kim Tae-yeon and Yoo Young-hee, holders of the national intangible cultural heritage Jinju Geommu. Students participating are those from the Department of Folk Dance and folk dance minors who have earned 21 credits in the transmission school courses.

Professor Kang said, "This project aims to contribute to the revitalization of regional culture and the development of the cultural and arts industry as a regional university," adding, "Students will have the opportunity to obtain certification in intangible cultural heritage transmission education, and furthermore, it is expected that employment opportunities will expand through the enhancement of cultural and artistic expertise and practical skills."
