Presidential Office Responds to 'Choi Minhee Withdrawal' Demand: "Will Review if Officially Raised in National Assembly"
"Personnel, will not mention," yet insists on undergoing verification procedures
The Presidential Office responded to the ruling party's claim that the recommendation of former Democratic Party lawmaker Choi Min-hee as a standing member of the Korea Communications Standards Commission (KCSC) should be withdrawn by stating, "If it is officially raised in the National Assembly, we can consider such matters."
A key official from the Presidential Office met with reporters at the Yongsan Presidential Office on the afternoon of the 9th and said, "We will not comment on personnel matters," while conveying this position. The Presidential Office has expressed that former lawmaker Choi should undergo a personnel verification process before appointment.
Earlier, on the 30th of last month, opposition parties including the Democratic Party held a plenary session in the National Assembly where members of the People Power Party protested and walked out collectively, but the recommendation for former lawmaker Choi as a KCSC commissioner was passed unilaterally. The People Power Party criticized the recommendation as a 'railroading' and demanded its withdrawal.

The People Power Party's ICT Media Promotion Special Committee stated in a press release that "Since former commissioner Ahn Hyung-hwan, whose term has ended, was a nominee recommended by the Liberty Korea Party when it was the opposition, the successor should also be a nominee from the opposition. However, this violates the purpose of the KCSC Establishment Act, showing a lack of understanding of the law." They also referred to former lawmaker Choi's conviction for violating the Public Official Election Act, emphasizing, "As a former Democratic Party member, she has shown political bias. Can such a person fulfill the role of a KCSC commissioner, whose duties require fairness and neutrality?"
