Prosecution summons Kim Gwang-ho, Seoul Police Chief, as second suspect in 'Itaewon Disaster' case
Suspected of Negligent Homicide and Injury at Work, Second Suspect Summoned
The prosecution investigating the Itaewon disaster summoned Kim Gwang-ho, the head of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, for questioning as a suspect.
On the 7th, the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office announced that on the 6th, they summoned Chief Kim as a suspect to investigate charges of professional negligence causing death or injury related to the Itaewon disaster. This was five days after the first summons on the 1st.
Chief Kim is accused of professional negligence causing death or injury for failing to establish safety management measures for large crowds despite anticipating a surge of people in the Itaewon area through reports related to the Halloween festival, which led to an increase in casualties on the day of the disaster. The prosecution is expected to decide whether to indict Chief Kim based on the results of two rounds of summons and investigations.
