Prosecutors, Police, Seoul City, and MFDS Hold Practical Meeting on Drug Investigation Regarding 'Gangnam Drug Beverage' Case

Related to the 'drug beverage' incident that occurred in the academy district of Gangnam, Seoul, the prosecution, police, and the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, among other related agencies, held a working-level meeting to discuss response measures.
On the 7th, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Song Kyung-ho) announced, "The Special Investigation Team for Drug Crimes at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office held a 'Drug Investigation Working Council' this afternoon with officials from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Drug Investigation Unit, Seoul City Citizen Health Bureau, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, and other related agencies regarding the 'Gangnam Academy District Minor Drug Beverage' case."
The Drug Investigation Working Council is a working-level meeting held when important issues related to drug cases arise.
At the meeting, attendees deeply recognized the gravity and seriousness of the issue and discussed in depth real-time information sharing, rapid arrest plans, and measures to prevent similar incidents, the prosecution reported.
A representative from the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office stated, "The prosecution and police will closely cooperate to swiftly identify and arrest the mastermind, accomplices, and others involved using various investigative techniques, and related agencies such as Seoul City and the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety will prepare effective measures such as treatment and rehabilitation to protect citizens from drug crimes," adding, "We will continue to make every effort to cooperate with related agencies to strictly respond to drug crimes."
Earlier, on the 4th, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office also held a meeting with Seoul City to cooperate on drug eradication, discussing mutual cooperation measures such as joint crackdowns and expansion of rehabilitation treatment.
Recently, a shocking 'drug beverage' incident occurred in the academy district of Daechi-dong, Gangnam, where high school students were given beverages containing drug substances and made to drink them.
President Yoon Suk-yeol instructed the prosecution and police the day before, saying, "Mobilize all investigative capabilities to root out the distribution and sales organizations of drugs and track down and recover criminal proceeds to the end."

Prosecutor General Lee Won-seok also ordered the immediate activation of the drug investigation working councils in six major regions, including the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, to coordinate responses with related agencies the day before.
