Yeosu City Selected in Jeonnam Province's 'Autonomous Police Public Safety Environment Improvement' Contest

Seogang-dong in Yeosu-si, Jeollanam-do, has been selected for the 'Resident Participation-type Crime Prevention Environment Improvement' contest project hosted by the Jeollanam-do Autonomous Police Committee, securing 100 million won to create a safe route for students going to and from school.

The 'Resident Participation-type Crime Prevention Environment Improvement Project' is a program where local residents directly identify crime issues and devise solutions to establish autonomous police affairs.

With this contest project selection, the district plans to carry out improvements such as ▲stairs and floor maintenance ▲LED lighting installation ▲CCTV installation ▲mural work on the Bonggang passage box used by Jinseong Girls' Middle and High School students as their route to and from school.

In particular, the participation of students in the mural work added significance to resident involvement.

To promote this contest project, Seogang-dong formed a local safety resident participation group of 13 members in February, including representatives from educational institutions, public institutions, and private organizations, to identify project sites and continuously discuss improvement plans.

Hong Juseong, head of Seogang-dong, said, “Improving the environment of the Bonggang overpass underground passage box has been a long-standing wish of our district, and with this contest project, it is expected to be reborn as a safe and bright space,” adding, “We will do our best to create a ‘Safe Seogang-dong.’”
