Yecheon Apple Distilled Liquor ‘Chunhee’ Achieves Great Success at Korea Liquor Awards
‘Chunhee (春姬)’, a traditional liquor newly introduced by ‘Chakan Nongbu’ (CEO Kim Sang-seon) in Yongmun-myeon, Yecheon-gun, Gyeongbuk, won the Grand Prize in the Korean Liquor Distilled Spirits category at the ‘2023 Korea Liquor Awards’ hosted by ChosunBiz.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the Korea Liquor Awards is a representative domestic liquor awards ceremony that selects and honors the best liquors in each category, including traditional Korean liquors, soju, beer, whiskey, spirits, wine, and sake, through strict and fair judging by a panel of over 70 professional liquor tasters.
‘Chunhee’, which won the grand prize this time, is a distilled liquor made from special apples produced collaboratively by a group of young return-to-farming members and local villagers at the foothills of Sobaeksan Mountain in the Baekdudaegan mountain range, located on the border between Chungcheong and Gyeongsang provinces. It is characterized by the fresh aroma of apples.
Chakan Nongbu has been recognized for its taste and quality by winning grand prizes with its Omija distilled liquor ‘Maximo’ in 2017, Bokbunja distilled liquors ‘Yecheonju Bok’ and ‘Manwol’ in 2018 and 2019, and single-crop distilled liquors ‘Rum PHAT’ and ‘Mildam’ in 2020 and 2021 respectively. With ‘Chunhee’ also receiving the grand prize, the excellence of Yecheon (醴泉), known as the spring of sweet liquor, has been proven once again.
