April 12, 1st Library Day... National Library of Korea Hosts Various Events
The National Library of Korea, under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, will hold various events inside and outside the library on the 12th to celebrate the ‘1st Library Day.’ The National Library of Korea will be introduced at the Gwanghwamun Square Library Camp site, and a special tour will be conducted at the National Library of Korea’s preservation storage.
At the Library Camp held at Gwanghwamun Square on the 12th, there will be an opportunity to introduce various aspects of the National Library of Korea. Along with the history of the National Library of Korea, the mission and vision as a representative library of Korea, major projects, and various experience corners will be operated. The website archive ‘OASIS,’ the digital archive project ‘Korean Memory,’ and the nationwide public library integrated data platform ‘Library Big Data’ will be introduced, and two works from the convergence content experience center ‘Silgam Seojae’ will be moved to Gwanghwamun for exhibition.
The National Library of Korea’s preservation storage, which is usually restricted from public access, will also be opened. It will be held twice on the 12th at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and participants can apply on the library’s website until the 10th. It will be on a first-come, first-served basis with 20 people per session, totaling 40 people.
On the first floor of the National Library of Korea’s main building, a special exhibition titled ‘Book Cart Special Exhibition: Book Cart and Librarians, Thinking Together (事遊)’ will be held. Using media, it reveals the daily lives of national representative library librarians who struggle daily with the ‘Book Cart.’
On the 5th floor in the Rare Books Room, a rare book donation exhibition titled ‘Memory and Sharing’ will be held. From the 12th to the 31st, donated materials from last year, including the manuscript ‘Yeonamjip (燕巖集),’ will be displayed.
Online events will also be held. From the 10th to the 18th, by leaving a congratulatory message of at least 30 characters on the National Library of Korea’s SNS event post, 100 people will be selected by lottery to receive a 10,000 KRW online cultural gift certificate.

A representative of the National Library of Korea stated, “Libraries are spaces where culture and art can be encountered in daily life,” and added, “On the occasion of the ‘1st Library Day,’ we will strive to become a national representative library that gets closer to the people.”
