Gwangyang-si 'The Answer is on Site' On-Site Communication Day Event
Mayor Jeong In-hwa Visits Wolgil Site and Potential Baseball Stadium Locations
Jeong In-hwa, the mayor of Gwangyang City, Jeollanam-do, announced on the 5th (Wednesday) that he conducted on-site activities to find answers through empathetic and communicative administration during the ‘First On-site Communication Day in April.’
On this day, he inspected sites including ▲ Wolgil District Surface Water Reinforcement Development Project ▲ Jungdo District Farmland Base Improvement Project ▲ three candidate sites for sports facilities (baseball stadium).
First, Mayor Jeong received a project plan briefing and checked the site at the Wolgil District Surface Water Reinforcement Development Project.
The Surface Water Reinforcement Development Project is an agricultural infrastructure improvement project that installs and reinforces hydraulic facilities such as retention facilities and water channels in areas lacking agricultural water to provide a stable supply of agricultural water.
Currently, Jungwol-myeon Wolgil-ri Jungdo and Gagil rely on private wells for agricultural water, causing an urgent need to secure agricultural water due to absolute shortages from groundwater resource depletion and salt damage.
Once this project is completed, it is expected to improve the farming environment by enhancing crop productivity through improved irrigation facilities and stable agricultural water supply.
Next, after visiting the Jungdo District Farmland Base Improvement Project site to check the progress, he visited three candidate sites for the baseball stadium to review the site status and project suitability and discuss anticipated issues and countermeasures.
The adult and little league baseball fields within Madong Sports Park, the only baseball stadium in Gwangyang City, have been temporarily established for several years, raising ongoing concerns about facility aging and the need to build a regulation-sized baseball stadium.
The city plans to build one adult and one little league baseball field, including spectator seats and pitching practice areas. Once completed, it is expected to revitalize local economy by promoting amateur and youth baseball, attracting training teams, and enabling baseball tournaments and event operations.
Mayor Jeong In-hwa of Gwangyang City concluded the on-site communication by saying, “The first step toward change and development that citizens can feel is right at the site,” and added, “We will continue to regularly inspect major projects closely related to citizens’ lives, directly manage project progress, and promote projects that meet citizens’ expectations through active communication on-site.”
Meanwhile, Gwangyang City operates ‘On-site Communication Day’ every month, where the mayor personally visits major project sites and places for gathering public opinions to check project progress and listen to voices from the field.
