Yeosu "Come Taste Geomundo Spanish Mackerel" Samchi Festival to be Held on the 7th

The 'Samchi Festival' will be held on the 7th at Geomundo, Samsan-myeon, one of Yeosu's top 10 tourist attractions.

Organized by the Geomundo Samchi Festival Promotion Committee, the event will take place from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. around Samho Bridge in Geomundo. It was prepared by young people who have returned to fishing villages and local fishermen to promote Samchi, a specialty product of Geomundo.

The festival will kick off at 11 a.m. with cultural performances to energize the venue, followed by a bountiful catch ritual at 1 p.m. praying for a good catch and fishing safety. Then, the Samchi fishing boat sea parade will offer a harmonious event where both residents and tourists can enjoy together.

Additionally, during the festival, there will be free tasting sessions featuring dishes made from Geomundo specialties such as Geomundo Samchi and sea breeze mugwort, and these products will be available for purchase at affordable prices, which is expected to contribute to revitalizing the local economy.

Furthermore, on the following day, the 8th, a singing contest hosted by the Geomundo Samchi Trolling Fishing Association will be held, providing double the enjoyment for tourists visiting Geomundo in succession with the Samchi Festival.

Meanwhile, this festival is part of the 'Youth Street Culture Festival' directly planned by young people and local residents. The next festival will be held as the Yeomun Teotgol Festival at the Yeoseo-dong scenic square.

Jeong Gi-myeong, mayor of Yeosu, said, "I hope this event will serve as an opportunity for Samchi to establish itself as a specialty product of Geomundo, not just cutlassfish. We have prepared a variety of attractions and food, so we look forward to the participation of many citizens and tourists."
