Upon hearing the report about the drug beverage incident in the Gangnam academy district that day, President Yoon said, "It is shocking that drugs have even permeated high school students," and added, "The prosecution and police must mobilize all investigative capabilities to root out the distribution and sales organizations of drugs and pursue the recovery of criminal proceeds to the very end," according to spokesperson Lee Do-woon in a written briefing.
Recently, in the Gangnam academy district, adult men and women distributed drug-containing beverages to high school students, claiming they were good for concentration, and later threatened the students' parents by saying their children had been given drugs in an attempt to extort money. The day before, the Seoul Gangnam Police Station arrested a woman, identified as Ms. A, who handed out the beverages. Ms. A reportedly deceived recipients by saying, "This is a tasting event for a newly developed beverage that enhances memory and concentration." The police are investigating the circumstances of the case with a man in his 50s who voluntarily appeared as an accomplice. They are also tracking down suspects who have not yet been apprehended.
