A Scholarship Project Worth Several Times the Tuition Fees Emerges... Pukyong National University Establishes Record 48 Million Won Scholarship
‘Dongwon Frontier Scholarship’, Supporting Future Pioneer Talents
An unprecedented scholarship project that exceeds tuition fees by several times is being promoted at Pukyong National University.
On the 6th, Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-su) announced that, together with the Dongwon Academic Research Foundation, it will establish the Dongwon Frontier Scholarship, which provides up to 48 million KRW to one student until graduation. This is considered an unprecedented scholarship program that supports 12 million KRW per year per person.
This scholarship selects and supports talents who will lead Korean and global society, and unlike previous scholarships focused on tuition support, it is provided as a scholarship that can be used for self-development.
The annual scholarship of 12 million KRW is a remarkable amount considering the tuition level at Pukyong National University. As of this year, Pukyong National University’s tuition ranges from 1.7 million KRW per semester (Humanities and Social Sciences) to 2.17 million KRW (Engineering).
Pukyong National University and the Dongwon Academic Foundation plan to select six scholarship students annually and will hold an information session on the 13th in the large conference room on the 2nd floor of the university headquarters to provide information about the purpose, eligibility, and selection process of the Dongwon Frontier Scholarship.
The Dongwon Frontier Scholarship is supported through a foundation established in 1986 with the sponsorship of Kim Jae-cheol, honorary chairman of Dongwon Group and an alumnus of Pukyong National University.
Honorary Chairman Kim pioneered Korea’s distant-water fishing industry, contributing to national economic development and building a leading global company. He is dedicated to supporting the cultivation of future talents with the belief that “a country can prosper only by nurturing talented individuals.”
President Jang Young-su of Pukyong National University said, “Scholarship students will be selected not based on academic ranking but on efforts for self-development, future pioneering plans, and potential contributions to Korean and global society,” adding, “I hope this scholarship project will serve as a catalyst to lead Pukyong National University students to become global ‘first movers.’”
