Enjoy the Charm of the Ancient Palace at Changdeokgung Filled with Moonlight
'Changdeokgung Moonlight Tour' Starting from the 13th
An experiential event to stroll through the Changdeokgung Palace Rear Garden under the blue moonlight and enjoy the charm of the ancient palace will be held every Thursday to Sunday from the 13th to June 4th. This is the 'Changdeokgung Dalbitgihang' (Changdeokgung Moonlight Tour), which has been steadily loved for 14 years.
The Cultural Heritage Administration's Palace and Royal Tombs Division and the Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation announced on the 5th that tickets for the sessions from the 13th to 28th and from May 4th to June 4th will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis via Ticketlink starting at 4 PM on the 6th and 20th. Each person can purchase up to two tickets, and the admission fee is 30,000 won.
Changdeokgung Palace is a cultural heritage site designated as a UNESCO World Heritage in 1997. Among the remaining Joseon Dynasty palaces, it is the best preserved in its original form. Especially, the Rear Garden is evaluated to have a well-balanced harmony with nature, featuring over 160 species of trees.
During the 'Changdeokgung Dalbitgihang,' participants carry traditional Cheongsachorong lanterns that light the night path and listen to stories from cultural interpreters, experiencing the history, culture, and landscaping of Changdeokgung. Participants start from Donhwamun Gate and tour major buildings such as Injeongjeon Hall, Huijeongdang Hall, and Nakseonjae for about 1 hour and 40 minutes.
A representative from the Palace and Royal Tombs Division said, "You can enjoy the clear and deep sound of the daegeum (bamboo flute) while encountering picturesque scenes of Buyongji Pond and Juhamru Pavilion, the highlights of the Rear Garden," adding, "We plan to provide an experience like time travel by reenacting the king and queen’s strolls." They also added, "You can enjoy the traditional dance 'Bosangmu (寶相舞),' created to celebrate the 40th birthday of Queen Sunwon by Crown Prince Hyomyeong at Yeongyeongdang, a banquet hall he built."
