Dong-A University Launches First Dong-A Brand Wine 'Donggam'... Expanding School Finances
Dong-A University has taken its first step into the ‘Dong-A Brand’ project to expand the school’s financial resources.
On the 4th, Dong-A University held an opening event for the ‘Donggam’ store, featuring wine made from persimmons grown on the university farm.
The persimmon wine ‘Donggam’ is the first product of Dong-A University’s ‘Dong-A Brand’ profit project, which aims to create a representative university product and develop it into a nationwide brand. A portion of the sales revenue will also be used for scholarships.
Donggam was produced through an ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) partnership with Malgeunnaeil, an agricultural corporation, using persimmons cultivated at Sincheon Farm in Hallim-myeon, Gimhae-si, Gyeongnam, managed by Dong-A University.
Donggam not only supports the university’s financial soundness but also promotes the revitalization of local agriculture and coexistence with the local community. The name ‘Donggam’ is a contraction of ‘Dong-A University persimmon’ and carries a double meaning: the dictionary definition ‘to feel the same in one way’ and the figurative meaning ‘Dong-A University that moves you.’
About 300 people, including Dong-A University President Lee Hae-woo, Vice President Kang Dae-sung, Director of External and International Affairs Park Hyun-tae, faculty members, and students, visited the tasting and pop-up store opening event to celebrate the launch of Donggam.
At the event, President Lee said, “We must break the mold in school management,” adding, “Starting with the persimmon wine ‘Donggam’ made from persimmons grown on Dong-A University’s farm, we will accelerate the development of the Dong-A Brand project to ensure the university’s financial soundness.”
Dong-A University opened a 20-pyeong (approximately 66 square meters) Donggam pop-up store on the 2nd floor of the Student Union Building (Co-op) at the Seunghak Campus in Saha-gu, Busan, and plans to operate it for one year.
Kim Dae-hyun from the External Cooperation Department, who developed Donggam, said, “The production of Donggam began in early last year, and it took one year to bear fruit this time,” adding, “We will actively pursue market expansion as the product offers both quality and price competitiveness.”
Donggam comes in three flavors: the original Donggam flavor, ‘Donggam The Classic’ with added tannin (scheduled for release in June), and ‘Donggam Sparkling,’ which adds a refreshing taste targeting people in their 20s and 30s (scheduled for release in February 2024).
Each bottle of Donggam contains 750 ml with an alcohol content of 7%, and will be sold to the public for 25,000 KRW. Faculty, staff, and students can purchase it for 20,000 KRW.
