Additional Recruitment for Participating Universities in 'Cheonwon's Morning Meal' Program
Existing Universities Requesting Enrollment Increase + New Universities
Selected Candidates Announced on the 21st
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs is additionally recruiting universities interested in participating in the '1,000 Won Breakfast' program. This is due to the decision to more than double the scale of the project.
The ministry announced that applications will be accepted from 10 a.m. on the 6th until 6 p.m. on the 14th, with document reviews conducted and results announced by the 21st.
'1,000 Won Breakfast' is a program that provides quality breakfast to university students for 1,000 won. For one meal, students pay 1,000 won, the government matches with 1,000 won, and the remaining cost is covered by the university. Last month, the government decided to expand the number of supported students this year from the initially planned 690,000 to 1.5 million.

Universities wishing to apply must submit the application form along with documents attached to the recruitment notice (such as a school introduction and operation plan) electronically via official document and email to the Korea Agency of Education, Promotion and Information Service in Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. The 41 universities previously selected must submit a separate application if they wish to increase the number of participants beyond the originally applied number.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs plans to comprehensively consider factors such as the project operation plan, number of participation days, willingness and conditions for participation, self-operation plans, and the validity of the estimated number of meals relative to the total number of students at the school during the selection process.
Selected universities must provide breakfast at 1,000 won to the designated number of participants during this year’s project period (April 24 to November 30). In line with the project’s purpose of expanding rice consumption, they must offer a regular meal that includes rice or convenient meals using domestic rice such as rice bread, rice cereal, or rice noodles. To prevent poor-quality meals, processed products like convenience store gimbap and cup noodles are discouraged. The ministry plans to continuously promote the improvement of breakfast quality through on-site inspections and student surveys.
