Foreign Minister: "We Will Expand Our Role and Responsibility in the International Community"
Foreign Minister Park Jin said on the 3rd during a meeting with the International Bureau of Expositions (BIE) inspection team, "The Republic of Korea plans to contribute to peace, prosperity, and freedom in the international community," adding, "'2030 Busan Expo' will be an important milestone for such contributions."
Minister Park made these remarks in the afternoon while meeting with Patrick Speth, Chairman of the Administrative and Budgetary Committee and head of the BIE inspection team, regarding the selection of the 2030 Expo host city.
Minister Park first addressed "why the Republic of Korea should be the Expo host," stating, "Korea has grown from one of the world's poorest countries to one of the top ten economies, and has become one of the 'most innovative countries in the world' selected by Bloomberg, a U.S. economic media outlet."
He then said, "Korea has successfully transformed into a country leading peace by overcoming the devastation of the Korean War (6.25 War)."
Regarding the strengths of Busan as the Expo host city, he explained, "By highlighting Busan's contribution to Korea's economic development, we can share Korea's development experience with the international community," adding, "Above all, there is strong public enthusiasm for hosting the Expo."
Minister Park particularly emphasized, "The current Korean government aims to expand its role and responsibilities within the international community through the vision of becoming a 'global pivotal state,'" and stated, "The platform to realize this is precisely the 'Busan Expo.'"
