Songpa-gu Establishes Flood Risk Alert System for Jamsil and Tancheon Retention Basins
‘Rapid Vehicle Flood Risk Alert System’ Established at Jamsil and Tancheon Retention Basins
Automatically Sends ▲Text Messages to Vehicle Owners ▲Blocks Parking Lot Entry During Flood Risk
Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced that it has established a ‘Rapid Vehicle Flood Risk Alert System’ at Jamsil and Tancheon retention basins to prevent flooding of parked vehicles in low-lying retention basins during unexpected heavy rains caused by abnormal weather, and has been operating it since last month.
The Jamsil and Tancheon retention basins have allowed voluntary parking in idle spaces of the retention basins during non-flood seasons to alleviate parking difficulties for local residents. However, due to irregular heavy rain patterns caused by recent abnormal weather, the risk of vehicle flooding is increasing. In fact, on November 19, 2020, 11 vehicles that did not exit the retention basin were flooded due to a concentrated heavy rain of 68mm in one day (maximum 18mm per hour).
Accordingly, the district invested about 300 million KRW to complete the rapid alert system at two retention basin locations in the area, and after a pilot operation, it officially started operation on March 10.
The newly installed rapid vehicle flood alert system transmits real-time entry and exit information of all vehicles entering and exiting the retention basins to the on-site control room, analyzing weather information, water level data, and disaster footage (CCTV) to predict vehicle flooding.
When a vehicle flood situation is predicted, the system quickly sends an automatic flood risk message via mobile text to the vehicle owner, minimizing damage.
At the same time, it automatically blocks parking lot entry and provides guidance on flood situations and vehicle evacuation through voice notification devices and electronic display boards, offering a safer parking environment for local residents.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “By establishing the rapid vehicle flood risk alert system at the retention basins, we will contribute to protecting the lives and property of residents by predicting floods and providing evacuation information. We will continue to do our best to improve parking convenience for residents and create a safe and pleasant living environment.”
Guro-gu Creates Clean and Beautiful Riverside Areas in Spring
Cleaning Trash from Riverbanks and Embankment Slopes, Maintaining Green Spaces
Creating Flower Beds at Anyangcheon, Dorimcheon, Mokgamcheon, and Gaebong Retention Basin
Guro-gu (Mayor Moon Heon-il) has started river maintenance and waterfront space development to allow residents to enjoy the spring atmosphere.
Last month, Guro-gu cleaned fallen leaves and trash accumulated over winter from the embankment slopes, riverbanks, and green spaces of Anyangcheon, Dorimcheon, and Mokgamcheon, and removed winter materials. Maintenance of green spaces was also carried out, including removal of hazardous and dead trees and inspection of tree growth conditions.
To create flower beds along the riversides, the district sowed seeds of rapeseed and zinnia at six locations along Anyangcheon, the riverbanks of Dorimcheon, the central green space of Mokgamcheon, and the ecological park within Gaebong retention basin. In the Anyangcheon scenic flower bed, plants such as Pennisetum alopecuroides and Yucca filamentosa were planted; in flower pots, Livingstone daisies and anemones were planted; and in the ecological park of Gaebong retention basin, lilyturf and ajuga seedlings were planted.
Especially, at the Anyangcheon ecological flower garden, Pennisetum alopecuroides was interplanted between tulip and allium seedlings planted last fall, so when tulips bloom this month, visitors will be able to enjoy the waves of Pennisetum alopecuroides swaying in the wind.
Compost has been spread and watering is ongoing in the rose garden, with blooms expected by the end of May.
In May, a shade tunnel will be created along Anyangcheon using six native crops including loofah, wax gourd, and bottle gourd. Additionally, the growth condition of flowers flooded during last year’s flood will be monitored to select plants that withstand flooding well and are easy to maintain, with plans to plant more.
