Gyeongnam Governor Park Wansu: "We Will Create Fishing Villages That Attract Youth Together with the Government"
The 12th Fisheries Day Commemorative Event Held in Tongyeong
"We will strive to ensure that our seafood is more trusted by consumers and that the fisheries industry can continue to develop sustainably."
Park Wan-su, Governor of Gyeongnam Province, made this statement at the 12th Fisheries Day commemorative event held at Yeongun Port in Tongyeong.

According to Gyeongnam Province, the ceremony was held under the theme "Abundant Sea, Vibrant Fishing Villages, United Fishery Workers."
The ceremony was attended by President Yoon Suk-yeol and his wife Kim Keon-hee, Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Cho Seung-hwan, local members of the National Assembly, and over 1,200 fishery workers nationwide.
Fisheries Day has been designated as a national commemorative day on April 1 every year since 2012 to raise public awareness of the importance of fisheries and fishing villages and to foster pride and dignity among fishery workers.

President Yoon said, "We will work to increase productivity through fostering export strategic items and smart fisheries, and to attract young people to the industry. We will also remove regulations to attract private investment in the fisheries sector and establish a safety management system in the fishing industry so that fishery workers can work energetically."
Governor Park said, "We will work together with the government to make fisheries lead the regional economy and create fishing villages that attract young people."
