The Night Safety Guardians project is being promoted as part of the Women-Friendly City initiative to raise awareness of the importance of nighttime safety and to create a safe and pleasant living environment in the local area, in response to the serious social issue of crimes such as sexual violence against women and children.
The patrol activities are organized into three teams that have been visiting vulnerable areas since this month, focusing on ensuring the safety of women and children who need protection, and conducting crime prevention activities during vulnerable nighttime hours in secluded alleys, around schools, playgrounds, and other locations.
The citizen participants have been working to strengthen the role of citizens as partners in the Women-Friendly City project by proposing improvements for inconveniences found through monitoring public facilities, and by participating in citizen forums and family project briefings to provide their opinions.
Cha Mi-hwa, head of the Women and Family Division, said, "We will do our best to create an environment where women, children, and all citizens can walk safely through continuous activities."
