Mayor Park Kang-su said, “I am deeply grateful to the volunteer group who joined the Filial Piety Meal project with the heart of serving my own parents,” and explained, “The Filial Piety Meal is not just for some elderly who skip meals due to lack of rice, but a project that creates opportunities for many elderly people spending their later years in loneliness to gather, share meals, reduce loneliness, and regain the meaning of life.”
The district plans to conduct a pilot project for about 160 elderly people starting in April and aims to develop the Filial Piety Meal into a one-stop welfare system that integrates health care, legal, and tax consultations.
Seocho-gu Signs MOU with Korea Road Traffic Authority to Create a Pedestrian-Safe City
Seocho-gu (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Seoul branch of the Korea Road Traffic Authority on the 28th to create a pedestrian-priority traffic safety environment. The ceremony was held to promote traffic safety campaigns at right-turn crosswalks and school zones.
The two organizations will mutually cooperate on ▲technical support and information sharing to prevent pedestrian traffic accidents caused by right-turning vehicles ▲traffic safety campaigns and promotional activities to establish a culture of stopping for right turns ▲technical support and information sharing to prevent traffic accidents in school zones.
The ceremony held at the district office was attended by Seocho-gu Mayor Jeon Seong-su, Kim Yeon-hwa, head of the Seoul Regional Headquarters of the Korea Road Traffic Authority, and other officials, who exchanged the agreement and took commemorative photos.
Going forward, the district will attach “Right Turn Stop Priority Point Zones” primarily in school zones and conduct safety culture campaigns in line with the shift to a pedestrian-centered traffic paradigm. The campaigns will be jointly conducted by Seocho-gu, the Korea Road Traffic Authority, and elementary schools, targeting vehicles and children during school commute hours to promote stopping before crosswalk stop lines and parking prohibitions, and distribute umbrellas with traffic safety logos to children.
Additionally, Seocho-gu has been operating an AI crosswalk at the Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital intersection to enhance pedestrian safety. The AI crosswalk consists of radar detectors and smart guide signs that alert pedestrians when a right-turning vehicle approaches and notify drivers with images on the sign that pedestrians are about to cross. Two more locations will be added and operated within this year.
Seocho-gu Mayor Jeon Seong-su, who attended the ceremony, said, “The district and the Korea Road Traffic Authority will work hand in hand to make Seocho-gu a safe place for pedestrians.”
