Pyeongtaek Jije Station and Gangneung Station were selected as the top projects, while Masan Station and Daejeon Station were selected as excellent projects.
The future-type transfer center refers to a transfer center that goes beyond the existing centers linking rail and bus services, to also connect future mobility such as Urban Air Mobility (UAM), autonomous vehicles, electric and hydrogen vehicles, and Personal Mobility (PM). The competition was held over three months starting from December last year, with a total of 12 local governments applying.
At Pyeongtaek Jije Station, a major transportation hub in southern Gyeonggi Province, future mobility services connecting nearby residential and industrial complexes will be introduced, considering the increased transportation demand in Pyeongtaek City due to the attraction of advanced industrial complexes such as semiconductors and hydrogen.
Gangneung Station will be developed as a transfer center to expand the convenience of public transportation use for tourists, serving as a transportation and tourism hub on the East Coast. Mobility services will be expanded in connection with events such as the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) World Congress in Gangneung.
Masan Station will establish a transfer center enabling transfers within 60 seconds and will remodel the transportation plaza into a citizen space. The plan aims not only to maximize transfer convenience but also to contribute to revitalizing the old downtown area in connection with urban regeneration plans.
Daejeon Station, a key hub for nationwide wide-area transportation, will build a future-type transfer center utilizing the area above the tracks and the plaza. The goal is to promote balanced development by linking with urban convergence special zones and other infrastructures for wide-area transportation.
The Metropolitan Area Wide-area Transportation Committee will support local governments in establishing detailed basic plans by providing planning costs and will operate a comprehensive planning team composed of experts in transportation, urban planning, and architecture. However, it was noted that the project contents may change during the basic plan establishment process due to technological changes or policy conditions, especially regarding UAM.
